Marketing Gal's first speech

I have been creating masterpieces for clients "behind the scenes" so to speak over the last few years and have always been able to dodge the public speaking arena. That was, until this past weekend. The Bucksport chamber's annual dinner has always been a favorite outing of mine, except this time around I was one of the speakers. Was I going to vomit on my shoes, pass out or worse swear? (For those who know me well, know I have quite a potty mouth in times of stress--well, okay, just about on any occasion.) My speech was brief, and to the point and I managed to even throw my trademark "rock on!" into it somehow. In the end, my nervousness disappeared, I knew my subject well and I had some killer heels on, it was all good. Thanks to those of you who wished me well and congratulated me after it was over.
In the end I was asked to create the poster for the Bucksport Bay Festival again this year. Hooray! I'm already brainstorming ideas.

My recent correspondence with Kristen Andresen, former ShopGirl now awesome MaineMaven star has inspired me to take better care of my blog, ere go, my business. If you haven't checked out her new site, please do--it's incredible. Maine is absolutely lucky to have such a talented and creative lady working her magic for all us shop-a-holics.

MargaretsCards has added a new line of gift box note cards produced by Grammie Kat, another talented local gal. The cards are available exclusively at BookStacks, 71 Main Street, Bucksport for $10 each. The hand crafted boxes include 6-3x3 note cards w/coordinating envelopes and are simply adorable! Grammie Kat's current lines include Spring and Baby cards--please check them out.

Also, I must give a shout out to Lisa of Silkweeds, 191 E Main St., Searsport and her latest addition of hand-crafted, Maine Made felt purses by: Maine Pursenalities (and more) by Denise. Wonderfully Busy Days!

Wow! October has been a whirlwind and it's not even half over. So many events, so little time. Let's see, The Historical Society House Tour was held yesterday. The report from coordinator, Dawn Elaine Danforth was all who attended had a great time. The society plans to repeat the tour next year and will have the houses on the route locked down by mid-spring allowing for lots of planning time.
I took MargaretsCards note cards and prints along with Carol Metthe of Bittersweet Gift Shop's BookStack's Maine selection of books to Oktoberfest in South West Harbor yesterday (Oct. 10). The crowd was more of a jewelry buying, beer drinking, country music dancing crowd so I packed up early and came home to share the afternoon with my family--a fine choice I felt!
Upcoming events: My Open House, Thursday, Oct. 16 from 4:30-7 at the Alamo Theatre on Main Street in heavenly blueberry muffins and Andy of Bucksport. Food, wine, movie shorts--a fun time to be sure!
Silkweeds' Open House is Nov. 7 from 5-9 p.m.! Mark your calendars, because it's almost here. There will be free giveaways, door prizes, refreshments and plenty of holiday cheer. Come join the fun! Good Food, Good Friends and Good Times.

Working on a super secret project for BookStacks. It's really exciting!! I'll keep you posted. Having a brain-storming session with Dawn Elaine Danforth about the Historical Societies' House Tour that's taking place in October. We have 4 houses and are still working on that 5th.

Received a call this morning from my printer, Craig at Snowman's Printing
they are so great at what they do--I use them because they have been in business forever, are reliable and can handle the large print jobs my various businesses require. I also love Eileen Ormsby at Sign Language in Bucksport. She is so helpful and ready for those quick print jobs!
Anyway, back to Craig! He called to let me know that the second printing of The Farm, Verona Island note card was finished and ready to be delivered. Hooray!
Silkweeds is getting ready for their October yard sale. Stay tuned for more details.
I am planning an "After Hours" event at the Alamo October 16th from 4:30-7. My intent is to have it be a gathering of friends and merchants with some great food and wine, discussion, a special viewing of the 2000 version of The Movie Queen, filmed right here in sunny downtown Bucksport! I also plan to show the Boston show on the Bridge and the highlights from the 2008 Bay Festival. Stay tuned for more on this front as well.

Time Management

It's been a busy week. Two of my friends and clients have begun their own blogs--Carol Metthe of Bittersweet Gift Shop and Lisa Gray of Silkweeds are getting their feet wet and doing a great job. A blog is a great way for them to reach their customers on a daily or weekly basis. Also, they can provide their patrons with the information they want to know, "Do you have those candles in yet?" "Why, yes we do!"
The Bucksport high school principle Bob Doar has requested my two photographer clients Shutter Images and Sundial Framing and Photography, LLC send in proposals for school photos. Both had expressed an interest in getting in on the bidding process for school and sport photos throughout all the schools. I jumped on this opportunity last Spring and am pleased to see Mr. Doar followed through on his promise to get back to me.
Let's cross our fingers Sundial's open house picture gets in this weeks local paper. I've confirmed the photo was sent along to the paper and depending on space and man time hope it gets in!
I've been working on a new DVD jacket for Northeast Historic Film entitled: The Night Portland Burned: One Terrible Night of Horror, July 4, 1866. The colors for the cover have a glowing vibe to them to illustrate the intensity of its subject matter.

Sundial's Grand Opening a Hit!

Yellow double doors, adorned with blue, yellow and orange balloons greeted patrons and neighbors today at Sundial Framing & Photography, LLC's grand opening extraveganza. The chamber's ribbon cutting ceremony was captured by two area photographers and will be sent in to the local paper who was unable to attend the event.
Owner, Leslie Wombacher reported early on how surprised she was about the turn out. She had actual customers who had her hopping around the shop taking their orders. Those who know Leslie (myself included) are not surprised the turn out was spectacular.
I am heading over at 6 p.m. for some wine and to have the MargaretsCards article framed!

My Thursday

I sent out payment today to reserve a spot at this year's Oktoberfest in South West Harbor. The event takes place October 11 at the Smuggler's Den Campground if your interested in dropping by. Tickets are $25 per person if you want drink tickets and a beer stein or $5 if you want to walk around and enjoy the craft and food booths. The event is being held rain or shine.
I'll have my MargaretsCards booth set up along with some items from BookStacks and blueberry muffins courtesy of Carol at the Bittersweet Gift Shop.

Bar Harbor or Bust!

I invited my sister Margaret along on my road trip to Ahlblad's Frame Shop in Bar Harbor. Owner, Raymond Strout ordered 10 more MDI prints, so I called, Road Trip! He gave me a tour of his shop which was quite amazing--getting to check out his digs while Gwennie explored all the ephemera.
Two more days until Sundial's grand opening. The chamber is slated for a noon ribbon cutting. I've heard there will be mini muffins if you get there early and an olive cream cheese dip for later...with the some delightful wines. Hope to see you there!

August is moving very swiftly. October, which seemed like forever and a day away is quickly approaching.

October 11 is the Bucksport Historical Societies 2nd Annual Historical House Tour. It's an all day event: 10-4 and includes five local homes (we're still working on the 5th--believe in TDC, believe in TDC!!) I know this year's event is going to be a great success for the Historical Society and help bring the funds they so desperately need for their upkeep.

But, before that comes Sundial Framing and Photography, LLC's Grand Opening, Friday, August 22, All Day! 16 Mechanic Street, Bucksport, 469-6060. A ribbon cutting for noon is scheduled with the Chamber of Commerce. Owners, Leslie and John Wombacher have joined forces with Bucksport Community Concerns, Marsha Mushrall to collect school items for their Backpack to School program.
Food and drinks will be served all day--with a special focus from 6-8 p.m. for those who cannot make it during the day. Please bring along your pens, pencils, paper and works of art that need that special eye for framing!!
